JOINT LAB MEETING WITH STRATEGIC PARTNER UNIL, THE CENTRE FOR INTEGRATIVE GENOMICS, SWITZERLAND

Cross-collaborative joint lab meeting with seminars, presentations given by lab members and discussion on further possibilities.

VISITING RESEARCHERS AT THE RCMM

In May, 2010, Dr. Biserka Mulac-Jericevic and Dr. Zeljko Jericevic (University of Rijeka) visitied the RCMM and gave two seminars in the framework of the Tankó Béla Seminar Series. Intereseted parties filled the Library of the RCMM and the event was also a great opportunity to have a closer look at each other's research and build further collaborations.

The title of the presentations was the following:

Dr. Biserka Mulac-Jericevic: Immunomodulatory and the Transcriptional Effects of Progesterone through Progesterone Receptors in Early Pregnancy

Dr. Zeljko Jericevic: Novel Algorithms for High Throughput Data Analysis with Examples for FLIM and MRI

ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

The Advisory Board Meeting of the MOLMEDREX Project took place on April 29, 2010. WP leaders of the project introduced the project results and a discussion on the results and the future possibilities also took place.

WEEK OF INNOVATIVE REGIONS IN EUROPE - GRANADA, SPAIN - MARCH 14-16, 2010

MOLMEDREX was present at the Week of Innovative Regions, in March, 2010 with a poster presentation.

The aim of this threeday meeting (from 15 to 17 March) was to define good practices for the correct use of the structural funds applied to R&D&i in national and regional terms. Duration: 3 days 15 March: From "synergies from policies” to “synergies from actions"The political vision and the point of view of the main players. 16 March: Parallel REGPOT and REGIONS sessions with practical cases presented and round-table discussions. 17 March: Discussion on best practices and possible synergies between structural funds, the Framework Programme and the Innovation and Competitiveness Programme. Conclusions and Recommendations.

The week focused on how to move from “synergies from policies” to “synergies from actions” in order to optimise the use of existing EU instruments in the area of R&D and to succeed in making the regions the real protagonists in building the knowledge society.

EQUIPMENT UPGRADE AT THE RCMM

Genomics Core Facilty

Microarray Platform provides  a platform for  chip-based genomic analyses.

 Advanced Imaging

TIRF-PALM Microscope Purchase in progress (ongoing public procurement process)

 Features:

  • superresolution (20-50 nm), single molecule sensitivity
  • high signal-to-noise ratio for membrane protein detection
Andor iXon EM DU-897 back-illuminated EMCCD camera – already purchased

HTS Core Facility

UV Irradiator provides controlled irradiation of keratinocytes with preset doses of UVA or UVB

NO Analyzer measures nitric oxide (NO), nitrite, nitrate and nitrosothiols in biological fluids (media, cell lysate, serum) and in exhaled breath with high sensitivity (low nanomolar range)

Liquid dispenser (thermo) dispenses solutions (e.g buffers, media, reagents; 5-395 ul) into 96 well plates

FlyScreen Patch Clamp Platform: The new robotized patch-camp system represents an entirely new screening platform for measuring both voltage- and ligand-gated as well as temperature-activated channels. The system features a multi-channel recording surface, fully robotized and extremely rapid (<50 ms) liquid transfer system, proper temperature-control, agile internal sample handling, and elevated instrument intelligence.
